Dr. Danielle Alexander-Urquhart is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences at Université de Montréal. Her program of research is centered on better understanding and supporting the sport experiences of athletes and coaches from equity-deserving communities. Specifically, her research has focused on disability sport and women in sport, with an emphasis on coach learning and development, cultures of excellence, and holistic coaching practices. She uses diverse qualitative methods, such as reflexive thematic analysis (Alexander-Urquhart & Culver, 2025), critical discourse analysis (Alexander, Duncan et al., 2022), ethnographic content analysis (Alexander, Hallward et al., 2022), and thematic narrative analysis (Alexander-Urquhart et al., 2025), to develop in-depth insights into lived experiences within sport and to identify practical recommendations to improve performance and well-being in this domain. She is particularly passionate about using storytelling methods (e.g., creative non-fiction) to illustrate individuals’ lived experiences in ways that evoke emotion and promote change through research. Danielle is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and Approved Mentor through the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA)/Association For Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
